This first workshop (organized by Batna University in cooperation with the Ecole Doctorale d’Astrophysique, Mentouri University, CRAAG, CTS/ASAL) held in the context of the opening up this year of the "Ecole Doctorale d'Astrophysique", the first of its kind in Algeria, aims at giving to the budging astronomy and astrophysics national community a much needed space to discuss current research. It will also be a springing board for the project of a national observatory to be set up in the Aurès region with both scientific and pedagogical vocations. In addition, the space connection with Astronomy and the perspective of integrating existing and planned worldwide observation networks and other international collaborations will be explored.
